Tourists may watch as the villagers feed the crocodiles, and some daring souls even go swimming with the animals in the pond.

The residents of Bazoule are devoted to upholding this historic custom and fiercely guard their precious friends. They consider themselves to be the crocodiles’ caretakers, and their link with these revered creatures is proof of the enduring strength of human-animal partnerships. In addition, they provide the crocodiles with village birds to eat.

No one is typically allowed to provide the reptiles chicken from another location as food. As a result of the crocodiles being fed on birds that are brought in from the hamlet, it is thought that no villagers have been attacked or murdered in centuries. When a villager drowns, the crocodile brings the body out for a dignified burial rather than eating it.
