Some disgruntled members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have demanded the immediate sacking of Mr Ofori-Atta, the beleaguered Minister of Finance whose managerial ineptitude and that of his boss Nana Akufo Addo have plunged Ghana into the depth of economic crises.

Per the account of Pulse Ghana, 98 of these MPs from the ruling party have stated that they will not attend next week’s budget presentation if the President does not act immediately on their demands.

The group’s spokesperson and MP for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, claims that Ofori-position Atta’s in government has become untenable, which is why there is a new call for his resignation. He made his statement after the group had softened their demand as a result of a meeting with Nana Akufo-Addo, the president.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Appiah-Kubi said, “We’ve gone back to (our demand for the President to) sack him now and therefore should the budget be presented under the stamp of the Finance Minister, we’ll not participate because as far as we’re concerned we’re never going to do business with him.

“And if we’re not going to do business with him, he does not participate in any process from the Presidency to the House. We will not participate in deliberations too.”

He noted that the only way the President will get them to participate in the budget presentation and appropriation is if someone else from government is appointed to present the budget.

“We’re not saying we won’t do President’s business. We’re saying we won’t do President’s business through Ofori-Atta. So if anybody else comes with President’s business, we’ll participate,” he said.

The amended resolution, according to Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, was the result of a meeting on Tuesday, November 15, at which 98 NPP MPs participated to discuss their position as a whole after deciding to soften their earlier stance.
