Reports of misconduct by members of the Wa Naa Security Task Force have raised significant concerns among residents of Wa Municipality and surrounding areas.
The recent arrest of two task force members in Fian has highlighted growing discontent with the force’s operations, with allegations of intimidation, gunfire, and abuse of office shaking public confidence.
According to Mr. Stephen Katoule, Assembly Member for the Fian Electoral Area, the incident occurred late on Tuesday night when members of the task force reportedly discharged firearms and assaulted a resident over a personal dispute.

Mr. Katoule explained that the armed task force members were carrying out an illegal operation, allegedly contracted by an individual to intimidate his brother during a disagreement.
“The youth of our community, alarmed by the sound of gunshots and aggressive behavior from those supposed to be protecting us, took action,” Mr. Katoule told Info Radio. “They apprehended two task force members and handed them over to the Wa police. They have since been remanded in police custody awaiting trial.”

Eyewitnesses reported that other task force members fled the scene when community members confronted them. This incident has left residents uneasy, questioning the credibility of the force that was originally intended to ensure their safety.
Concerns regarding the Wa Naa Security Task Force have been mounting, with residents expressing frustration over their aggressive behavior and lack of professionalism.
Many citizens have reported difficulty in distinguishing between task force members and criminal elements due to their actions, which have included intimidation tactics and abuse of power.
“We were promised safety, but what we are witnessing feels like lawlessness under the guise of protection,” said one concerned resident, reflecting the growing dissatisfaction among the community.
As the investigation proceeds, there are widespread calls for greater accountability and transparency in the operations of the task force. Residents are hoping for swift action from authorities to restore faith in the security forces meant to protect them.
