Sub-Chief Mutala Tendana, also known as Jontong Naa, was found murdered in his residence in Wa, Ghana, on Thursday morning. The 55-year-old chief also served as the secretary for the Wa Customary Land Secretariat.

According to residents, Jontong Naa was not seen throughout the day. When someone went to check on him at the family house in Suuriyiri, a suburb of Wa, they discovered him killed in his room.

Police are investigating the crime scene and haven’t released details about the cause of death or potential suspects. Jontong Naa, a Tendaana (landlord) and popular sub-chief, held his chieftaincy title from his mother’s Gonja homeland.

The Ghana Police Service’s crime unit is investigating the matter using their established procedures.
