The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has granted approval for the rehabilitation of the Wa-Sawla Road (from KM 0+000 to KM 95+235) and the construction of a 6.5km dual carriageway. This approval was issued in Letter No. PPA/ICEO/11/357/24 dated 28th November 2024, in accordance with Section 40 (1) (b) of the Public Procurement Act, Act 663 (as amended).

The contract for this major infrastructure project has been awarded, with a total contract value of GH₵2,306,166,134.60 (Two Billion, Three Hundred and Six Million, One Hundred Sixty-Six Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty-Four Ghana Cedis, Sixty Pesewas). The project is expected to be completed within 36 calendar months.

The Chief Executive of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) will serve as the Engineer for the project, with the Regional Highway Director for the Upper West Region, or any other appointed representative, acting as the Engineer’s Representative.

The contractor is expected to contact the Engineer for further instructions, and work is set to commence upon the issuance of a Notice to Commence Works, following the formal signing of the Contract Agreement.

As part of the contractual process, the contractor is required to submit the necessary Performance Security before signing the *Contract Agreement. The security must be in a form acceptable to the Employer and include the following:

  • Bank Guarantee: 10% of the Contract Price
  • Performance Bond: 30% of the Contract Price

Once the Performance Security is provided and the Contract Agreement is signed, the contractor will be issued with the Notice to Commence Works, marking the official start of the project.

This project is a significant step in improving transportation infrastructure in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The rehabilitation of the Wa-Sawla Road and the construction of the new dual carriageway will enhance connectivity, promote regional development, and improve the movement of goods and people within the region.
