Wa Kusaasi – Mamprugu community committed to peace after Wa Naa’s engagement

In a proactive move aimed at enhancing peaceful coexistence, the paramount chief of the Wa Traditional Area, Wa Naa Seidu Pelpuo IV, has summoned the leadership of the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities within the Wa Metropolis in the wake of the Bawku resurgence, which has escalated to other parts of the country.

During a brief ceremony held at the Wa Naa’s palace, Wa Naa’s spokesperson, Naa Khadir, reaffirmed the paramount chief’s commitment to overseeing a peaceful Wa and urged both the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities to coexist peacefully as brothers in the metropolis. The chief also urged both parties to embrace dialogue as the best option for ending persisting conflicts.

The leadership of the Kusasi community, on behalf of both parties, assured Wa Naa of their unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence within the metropolis and beyond.

“Everyone in this town knows how we have lived ever since the conflict in Bawku started. We here don’t know whether someone is Kusasi or Mamprusi; we are all one and we speak with one voice. We don’t wish for what is happening back at home to continue. My wife’s maternal home is Mamprusi, and my daughter is married to a Mamprusi, so where will I go if the conflict should continue?” a Kusasi elder said on behalf of both parties.

The fruitful meeting concluded at the Wa Naa’s palace with assurances from both communities of a continued commitment to peaceful coexistence within the Wa Metropolis and the Upper West Region at large.
