On Wednesday, 19th July 2023, the Wa High Court delivered a verdict sentencing Ibrahim Fuseini, a twenty-six-year-old farmer, to death by hanging for the murder of his mother, Zainab Fuseini.

The tragic incident occurred on 6th December 2019, at approximately 6:30 am in Chaari-Bassi, Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

Ibrahim Fuseini was charged with murder under Section 46 of the Criminal Offence Act 1960 (Act 29). According to the court ruling, he used a cutlass to commit the heinous act, resulting in the death of his mother, Zainab Fuseini.

The case was heard by the Wa High Court, and after careful examination of the evidence and testimonies, the court determined that Ibrahim Fuseini was guilty of matricide. In light of the gravity of the offense, the court decided to impose the maximum penalty under the law, sentencing the farmer to death by hanging.

The Upper West Region has seen a rare occurrence of such a severe sentence, and this case stands as a stark reminder of the significance of ensuring a fair and just legal system to maintain peace and order within the region.
