Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, has raised serious alarms about the growing instances of indiscipline and immoral behaviors within the Wa community. He lamented that such trends are tarnishing the town’s once-enviable reputation as an area known for high moral standards.

The issue gained significant attention last year when a viral video led to the public flogging of two lovers at the forecourt of the Waala traditional area palace. The incident shed light on the prevalence of immoral behavior and same-sex relationships in the region, prompting the Waala Traditional Council to address the matter through a press conference.

Speaking as a guest speaker during the funeral ceremony of the renowned Islamic scholar Osman Saeed in Wa, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih expressed his concerns about the deteriorating moral fabric of the community. He stressed that the prevailing indiscipline and immoral behaviors contradict the values upheld by the predominantly Muslim town.

“Wa is known as a serious Muslim community. Islam forbids immorality and indiscipline. Unfortunately, indiscipline and immoral behavior are becoming prevalent in Wa,” he lamented.

The regional minister called upon parents and the Muslim community’s leadership to take on their roles in guiding and imparting moral values to the current and future generations. He emphasized the collective responsibility of the community in fostering moral uprightness, stating that it is crucial for a brighter future.

Furthermore, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih extended his appeal for prayers to the Muslim community in Wa. He requested their support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party as they prepare for internal elections and the 2024 poll.

In a show of support and respect, the regional minister presented a donation of GH¢5000 towards the establishment of a fitting library in honor of the late Islamic scholar, along with additional contributions to the bereaved family and the leadership of the Muslim community present at the funeral event.
