Upper West regional minister Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has donated two motor bikes to each of the 11 district assemblies in the upper west region.

This kind gesture is to aid officials monitor and supervise the implementation of Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2). The project will help expand and strengthen the social safety net program which will directly benefit over 1.6 million people in Ghana. The project will help to improve the incomes and productivity of the poor and vulnerable.

About Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2)

The Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2) is a five-year project (2022-2027) funded by the World Bank with an estimated cost of US$150 million. The project aims to support the Government of Ghana to strengthen its social protection system and improve the productivity of the poor and vulnerable.

GPSNP 2 will be implemented through six components:

  • Component 1: Productive Inclusion will provide financial and technical assistance to poor households to enable them to start or expand income-generating activities.
  • Component 2: Labour-Intensive Public Works will provide employment opportunities to poor households through the construction and maintenance of community infrastructure.
  • Component 3: Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) will provide cash transfers to poor households with children under the age of five and pregnant women.
  • Component 4: Social Protection System Strengthening will support the Government of Ghana to improve the targeting, delivery, and management of its social protection programs.
  • Component 5: Project Management, Coordination, and Capacity Building will provide support for the overall implementation of the project, including monitoring and evaluation, procurement, and public financial management.
  • Component 6: Contingency Emergency Response will provide support for the government to respond to unforeseen shocks and crises.

GPSNP 2 is expected to benefit over 2 million people in Ghana, including 1.2 million poor households. The project is expected to contribute to poverty reduction, improved food security, and increased resilience to shocks and crises.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP). The World Bank is providing technical assistance to the government to implement the project.

GPSNP 2 is a critical component of the government’s efforts to reduce poverty and improve the lives of the poor in Ghana. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of people in the country.
