Speaker of Parliament of Ghana, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, was enskinned as the “Tinmaale Naa” of the Takpo Traditional Area in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency in the Upper West Region on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

This was in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the area during his tenure as a Member of Parliament, Minister, Deputy Speaker, and Speaker of Parliament. He was given the skin name “Sunniyong Maalu Sungmaali Naa Bagbin I.”

The enskinment ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including the Paramount Chief of the Takpo Traditional Area, Naa Widaana Nanga II; the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih; and the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Dr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh.

In his acceptance speech, Bagbin pledged to use his new position to promote development in the Takpo Traditional Area. He said he would work to improve education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the area. He also promised to promote traditional culture and values.

The enskinment of Bagbin as a chief is a significant event in the Takpo Traditional Area. It is a recognition of his contributions to the area and a sign of the respect that he is held in. It is also a sign of the importance that traditional leaders play in Ghanaian society.
