The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) recently held its matriculation ceremony to induct the 4th cohort of students into the university. The ceremony highlighted the significance of discipline and academic excellence for the students throughout their academic journey.

A total of 4,253 students were formally welcomed into the university, with 35 percent of them being females pursuing various academic programs. Among the newly inducted students, 1,295 were postgraduate students, representing 30 percent of the total admissions.

Addressing the students during the ceremony, Professor Emmanuel K. Derbile, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of SDD-UBIDS, emphasized the importance of exhibiting good character alongside academic pursuits. He stressed that degrees are not only awarded for academic excellence but also for demonstrating good character.

Prof. Derbile urged the students to pledge their allegiance to the university through the administration of the Matriculation Oath and to uphold the university’s values throughout their tenure. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to the institution’s rules and regulations to maintain a conducive learning environment.

While assuring the students of quality academic services, Prof. Derbile reiterated the university’s commitment to becoming a global center of excellence. He highlighted the importance of increasing admissions for postgraduate studies, especially full-time research students, to meet the demands of national development and global competitiveness.

In terms of infrastructure development, Prof. Derbile mentioned ongoing engagements with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to complete funded projects. Additionally, the university’s council approved a budget for the construction of a multi-purpose lecture hall and office complex financed from the school’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The timely completion of these projects, Prof. Derbile noted, would enhance the university’s capacity to train more graduates, particularly from the Free Senior High School (SHS) program. He reiterated SDD-UBIDS’s commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and bridging the gap between academia and industry to achieve internationally acclaimed status.
