Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, returned to his alma mater, Wa Senior High School, on Friday, June 30, 2023, to inspect the progress of an ambitious project—the construction of a remarkable 2,000-capacity Ultra-Modern Assembly Hall complex.

As the generous benefactor of the project, Speaker Bagbin is funding this initiative with a budget exceeding 12 million Ghana cedis (GHS 12,000,000.00).

The Assembly Hall project holds great significance as the school prepares to commemorate its 50th anniversary. Established in 1970, Wa Senior High School stands as one of the oldest secondary institutions in the Upper West Region.

Once completed, the state-of-the-art assembly hall will not only cater to the current student population of 2000 but also significantly enhance the learning environment and overall educational experience for students.

During the inspection ceremony, Rt. Hon. Bagbin addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of academic dedication and hard work. Drawing from his own experiences, he encouraged them to aim for greatness and surpass his own achievements.

Despite the scarcity of resources during his time, Speaker Bagbin highlighted how determination and perseverance enabled him and his peers to succeed. He assured the students that with dedication to their studies, they too would find success in life.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made thus far, the Speaker commended the workmanship and dedication of the construction workers. Furthermore, he promised support for additional projects requested by the school’s Headmaster, including the installation of a much-needed Public Addressing system (PA system).

The lead consultant for the project, Mr. Juliute Saaka, confirmed that construction is currently 28% complete, having commenced in February 2023. He assured the Speaker that the project would be delivered on time, aligning with the scheduled completion deadline set for 2024.

Mr. Adams Iddrisu Thirdman, the Headmaster of Wa Senior High School, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Speaker’s generous support in funding the assembly hall project. He acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by the school, such as the need for additional dormitories and infrastructure, and appealed for further assistance.

With the commitment and determination displayed by Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin and the project team, the Ultra-Modern Assembly Hall at Wa Senior High School is set to become a symbol of educational excellence in the Upper West Region.
