President John Dramani Mahama has re-nominated Mary Haruna as the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for Nadowli-Kaleo and Adamu Sayibu as the DCE nominee for Wa East. This re-nomination comes after both individuals failed to secure confirmation in their respective districts during previous voting exercises.
The re-nomination was carried out in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended.
Out of the eleven Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees in the Upper West Region, the Wa East District and Nadowli-Kaleo District were the only two that failed to confirm their initial nominees, necessitating this re-nomination by the President.
Details of their previous confirmation votes are as follows:
Adamu Sayibu – Wa East: He was outrightly rejected after securing only 13 “Yes” votes against 23 “No” votes.
Madam Mary Haruna – Nadowli-Kaleo: She polled 24 “Yes” votes and 28 “No” votes, failing to meet the confirmation threshold.
The new confirmation dates for these re-nominated individuals will be scheduled by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), after which their confirmation or otherwise will be determined by the respective assembly members.
