On March 15, 2025, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) came to the aid of one of its own, presenting a GHC 100,000 cheque to Miss Ashida Nyasu, a dedicated nurse at the Tumu Municipal Hospital. This generous donation is to support her urgent kidney transplant in India.
The emotional ceremony took place at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where Miss Ashida is currently undergoing dialysis. The cheque was presented by Mr. David Sam, the Greater Accra Regional PRO, and Mr. Alhassan Haruna, the Korle Bu District Vice Chairman, on behalf of GRNMA’s National President, Madam Perpetual Ofori Ampofo.
This act of kindness comes from the GRNMA Health Fund, a safety net established to assist nurses and midwives facing medical emergencies. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Miss Ashida and her husband expressed their heartfelt thanks.
“Dear Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), words cannot fully express my gratitude for the incredible support you have shown me. Your kindness has eased a huge burden and, more importantly, given me renewed hope. Thank you for standing by me in this difficult time,” Miss Ashida said emotionally.
In recognition of this impactful initiative, Hon. Bentor, Municipal Chairman of the Sissala East Municipality, also commended GRNMA leadership for its dedication to the health and welfare of nurses and midwives. He called on employers to strengthen or introduce annual medical screenings for healthcare workers as part of their conditions of service.
“As nurses, we dedicate our lives to caring for others, but we must also remember to care for ourselves. Let’s pay attention to what we eat, adopt healthier lifestyles, and prioritize regular check-ups,” he urged.
The GRNMA’s Health Fund continues to provide critical support for its members, demonstrating that in healthcare, no one stands alone. The association’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its members has a profound impact on the lives of nurses and midwives across the country
