The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the reassignment of several directors, including Dr. Damien Punguyire, the current Upper West Regional Director of Health Service.

Effective April 14, 2025, Dr. Punguyire will take over as the Regional Director of Health Service for the Eastern Region, succeeding Dr. Winfred Komla Ofosu, who will be proceeding on compulsory retirement.

In addition, Dr. Robert Amesiya, the Medical Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital, has been reassigned as the Acting Regional Director of Health Service (RDHS) for the Greater Accra Region. Meanwhile, Dr. Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghi will step into the role of RDHS for the Upper West Region.

Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, explained that these strategic reassignment decisions aim to position the GHS to deliver more effectively on its mandate and improve operational efficiency. The reassignment considers the individual strengths and unique skills of the affected directors.

“All reassigned Directors are expected to fully participate in the annual performance review meetings of their new Divisions and Regions. In line with the Service’s protocols, all Directors are urged to comprehensively hand over their duties before the effective date of their reassignment,” the statement concluded
