The University of Ghana has responded to a report circulating on social media, alleging that the University collected over GHC 11 million in graduation fees but failed to provide medallions and scroll holders to graduands. The University asserts that these claims are misleading and do not reflect the true facts.

Clarifying the Graduation Fee and Expected Amount, UG university emphasizes that if each of the 15,776 expected graduands pays the GHS 500 graduation fee, the total amount would be GHS 7,888,000, not the GHC 11 million as inaccurately reported. The GHS 500 fee per graduand covers several essential items and services, including:
Rental of Graduation Gown Set (including cap/hood if applicable),Congregation Publication,Graduation Medallion (for all graduates),Scroll Holder (for the graduation certificate),University Souvenir (scarf for female graduates, tie for male graduates),Water provided during the ceremony and Administrative Overheads

The University clarified that all of the listed items were provided except for the medallions and scroll holders. In an official statement dated February 10, 2025, the University informed graduands of the procurement delays which would affect the distribution of medallions and scroll holders during the February 2025 graduation ceremonies. The statement assured students that the items would be made available at the appropriate time.
