An Economics teacher at Kanton Senior High School in Tumu, Mr. Forkah Johan, has been arrested by security personnel at the Mole National Park in the Savannah Region for alleged poaching activities.

Mr. Forkah Johan was apprehended during the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He was found at the far end of the Mole National Park, close to the Wa East District. Following his arrest, he was transported to Damongo, where he was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for prosecution.

Security officials at the Mole National Park, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that a single-barrel gun and some cartridges were retrieved from the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Mr. Forkah Johan, who is in his early forties, reportedly traveled over 100 kilometers from Tumu in the Upper West Region to the Mole National Park in the neighboring Savannah Region. Despite his profession as a teacher, he is known within the Tumu enclave as a hunter.

The Ghana Police Service in Damongo will be handling the prosecution of Mr. Forkah Johan. The outcome of the legal proceedings will likely serve as a deterrent to others considering similar activities.
