The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Thursday, 6th March, 2025, which marks Ghana’s Independence Day, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 28, 2025, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, reminded the general public to observe the day as a holiday in celebration of the country’s independence.

Ghana gained its independence from colonial rule on 6th March, 1957, and the day remains one of the country’s most significant national holidays, commemorating the struggle for freedom and sovereignty.

The Ministry urges all citizens to observe the day with the proper respect and reverence for the historical significance of Ghana’s independence.
