Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, a seasoned Nollywood actress, has pleaded with the western film industry to cease using Black Americans as Africans in their productions.

She claims that by using A-list actors from Africa, western producers can close the gap.

At the Ladies of Valour event, Omotola spoke with Joy Entertainment and urged Africans to speak up for themselves rather than being stereotyped by western media.

“The west needs to be a little more understanding of our complexities and receptive to cooperating with us. Stop casting Americans as Africans when you have roles for Africans. It is illogical.

“When we watch movies where people talk differently as Africans, we need to speak up for ourselves. Who speaks that way in Africa? These practices are antiquated and outdated, and we must work to put an end to them.

“I pray that this is the time when African performers and directors will be valued for the contributions they make and where we can truly develop collaboration’, she continued.

Ladies of Valour, a project started by Nana Aba Anamoah, aims to unite strong, brave women to share their tales of success, failure, and all in between.

The event, which began on March 7, featured stories from Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, a Nigerian actress, Charlotte Osei, a former head of the Election Commission, Eugenia Baffour Bankoh, a Ghanaian businesswoman, and Obuobia Darko-Opoku, a business leader and communications expert.
