David Ochieng, a pastor from Uganda, gave up his job as a minister after winning a sizable sum through sports betting.
According to local media, he chose to shut down his church after winning 100 million UGX through sports betting, leaving his congregation members in shock and uncertainty.

He closed down the building and left his congregation members stranded when they arrived for midweek service after realizing that he is now 100 million shillings richer.
When visitors from the church discovered the gate was closed, they were startled and unsure of what to do.

When the priest was approached, he acknowledged that his decision to work in God’s vineyard was only motivated by the need for financial support and not because he felt called.

Ochieng went on to say that the victory was a gift from God and that it would help him escape the poverty he was in because he was unable to support himself off the donations he received from his underprivileged flock.
