The Upper West Regional Youth Organiser of the ruling new patriotic party Hon. Hamid Mohammed Saana have called on well wishers of the party most especially the dedicated youth and social media advocates of the party.
As we step into the sixth month of this crucial election year, he made a passionate appeal for all to tighten their belts.
According to him “The special and history-making agenda the party set for ourselves requires our dedicated publicity efforts. Publicity is the lifeline of politics. As Vivien Kellems wisely said, “How can you accomplish anything unless people know what you are trying to do?”
How can we sell our political product if people don’t know what it is or who represents it? We must make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the lead product in the political market. Remember, victory is twice as sweet when you have the most popular candidate. Therefore, our focus should be on making our flag bearer more popular.
I have noticed that some of our party’s media communicators are already promoting other candidates for the next executive elections instead of preparing for the general elections. We should not distribute our publicity efforts equally among all party members. Dr. Bawumia’s publicity should not be in competition with anyone else’s.
It doesn’t benefit us if we lose focus on our main agenda and fail to make gains in the 2024 general elections, even if we succeed in the next executive elections. We should remember John Agyekum Kufuor’s adage: “It is better to be a cleaner of a party in power than be the general secretary of an opposition party.”
Let’s put on our ‘political market head pans’ and ensure that our one product, Dr. Bawumia, is seen as the only option, the best option, and the next option in the market. Only then can we see ourselves as part of the agenda to break the 8.
We can achieve this, but we must do more than we did in the last two elections because we are seeking more than we have ever sought”.
