Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has announced the release of GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to settle outstanding allowances for nursing trainees nationwide. This announcement was made during a meeting with nurses and midwives in Accra.

The nursing trainee allowance, which has been in arrears for several months, was reintroduced by the Akufo-Addo administration after previously being abolished. The financial support is essential for nursing trainees who depend on these funds for their education and daily expenses.

Dr. Bawumia confirmed that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department would transfer the funds to the Ministry of Health on Thursday. He emphasized the need for a swift disbursement and instructed Dr. Okoe-Boye to ensure that the allowances reach the nursing trainees’ accounts promptly.

“This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances. I have also alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby when the money hits the Ministry of Health account. They should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their alawa. It will drop,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
