Prior to the team’s vital AFCON qualifier against Madagascar, Black Stars coach Chris Hughton stated that none of his players are guaranteed starts.

The team started practicing on Monday in Accra and is scheduled to continue through Thursday before departing for the match, which will be contested on Sunday in Antananarivo.

Every player on the team, whether they are 23 or 25, 24 or 25, is pushing to start.

“As a coach, you always have to provide your players with all the information, and when we do our research and watch our opponent, there isn’t one that we think we are going to win this game easily,” the player said.

Chris Hughton proved his comments by leaving Ghana captain Andre Ayew out of the matchday squad for their previous qualifier against Angola in Kumasi. Since taking charge in March, Hughton has handled just two Black Stars games.

On Wednesday, the team is anticipated to resume training in an effort to qualify for the upcoming AFCON, which will take place in Ivory Coast.

Hughton spoke to the media following the squad’s workout on Tuesday and emphasized the competition for different positions within the club, which makes it challenging to remain with certain players throughout, while also stating that all of the players are working hard to achieve starting places.

After the team’s training session, he told the reporters that “there is no truly standout first XI.”
