National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it received 700,000 blank cards on Monday, February 17, 2025, to address the backlog of pending Ghana Card issuances, replacements, and updates. These blank cards were received from NIA’s technical partners after weeks of negotiations led by the Ag. Executive Secretary.

The cards will be used to clear the backlog that has accumulated since 2023, helping to speed up the process for individuals needing their first issuance, card replacements, or updates of personal information.

To ensure efficient processing, the Ag. Executive Secretary has established a technical team tasked with overseeing the printing and distribution of these cards. This team will ensure that the backlog is processed swiftly and the cards are distributed to district offices for onward issuance.

Further announcements will be made regarding when the card issuance will begin at district offices across the country, and the public will be informed in due course.

In addition to the newly received cards, the NIA reminds the public that over 600,000 Ghana Cards have already been printed but remain uncollected at regional and district offices since 2018. A team is currently working on creating an efficient system for distributing these uncollected cards to their rightful owners.
