In a bid to reclaim power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region is gearing up to launch its regional campaign ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections. The campaign, themed “Change to Reset Ghana,” will be officially launched on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Event Details

The campaign launch will be preceded by a “Walk to Reset Ghana,” set to take place earlier on the same day. The main event will kick off at Wa Tendamba Park at exactly 10:00 AM.

Key Figures Attending

The launch will be graced by prominent NDC figures, including:

H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, former president and the party’s Flagbearership, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, Malik Basintale, Deputy National Communications Officer, Mr. Abdul Nasir Bunas, Upper West Regional Chairman and all 11 NDC parliamentary candidates from the Upper West Region

The Upper West Region has historically been a stronghold for the NDC, with the party currently holding 8 out of the 11 parliamentary seats in the region. The party previously won all 11 constituencies in the 2012 election and is striving to replicate that feat in the upcoming polls.

2024 Election Dynamics

The December 7th election is expected to be closely contested, with both major parties fielding candidates from Northern Ghana. The NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia aims to “break the 8,” while the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama seeks to “change to reset Ghana.”

The NDC’s campaign launch in the Upper West Region marks a crucial step in their efforts to mobilize support and reclaim the reins of government in the forthcoming elections.
