The accused individual, Regina Abanga, a secretary at the Ministry of Energy, faces accusations of orchestrating a complex scheme involving the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

The allegations stem from a series of purported manipulations of ADB’s ATM machines, which resulted in substantial withdrawals totaling GHS287,775.

Court documents outline that Abanga, who held an account at the Ridge branch of the bank, is alleged to have carried out these transactions between November 2022 and June 2023.

According to the facts presented, Abanga reportedly visited various ATM machines across the Accra metropolis during the alleged operation, making withdrawals ranging from GHS2,000 to 6,000 on each occasion.

An unexpected twist occurred on June 15 when a bystander named Solomon Inusah detected her activities at an ATM machine in Labone. Swift action was taken, and the bank was promptly informed, leading to the deactivation of her ATM card.

Further investigations, along with a complaint lodged by the accused herself, led to her arrest.

Police officials involved in the case state that Abanga confessed to her involvement in the alleged scheme. She revealed that the funds obtained were used to purchase a Toyota Vitz and finance the construction of a three-storey building.

The charges against Abanga are extensive, amounting to over 100 counts of stealing.

She has pleaded not guilty and has been granted bail with specific conditions. Her bail is set at GHS250,000, requiring three sureties, one of which must provide a property valued at GHS125,000 as collateral.

Additionally, she has been directed to report to the Police every Wednesday on a weekly basis.
