Enrique Cerezo, the president of Atletico Madrid, has stated that Joao Felix won’t be signing a long-term contract with Chelsea this summer.

The striker made 20 appearances for the team and scored four goals while on loan from Chelsea in January.

Cerezo said that the 23-year-old Portuguese player had been let go by incoming Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.

He told Spanish publication AS, “We heard yesterday that the new Chelsea manager does not [want] Felix.

“We’ve only been aware for a few hours. He’ll return here, and then we’ll see. We have nothing scheduled.

Felix became the fifth-most expensive player in history when Atletico paid Benfica £113 million for the youngster in 2019. He was then 19 years old.

He later went on to score 34 goals in 131 games across all leagues, aiding them in winning the 2020–21 La Liga championship.
