The Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has reversed her earlier directive to transfer the murder case of Eric Johnson, CEO of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, from the Wa High Court to Kumasi. The decision comes in response to protests from the family members of the late CEO, who cited public interest and logistical concerns as primary reasons for opposing the transfer.

The Wa High Court, presided over by Judge Yussif Assibey, had initially suspended proceedings on June 12th following a directive from the Chief Justice to move the case to Kumasi. However, after considering the family’s objections, the Chief Justice has now authorized the Wa High Court to continue with the trial.

Lead prosecutor Saed Abdul-Shakur confirmed that the case management conference is scheduled for July 18th, with the trial set to commence soon after.

“Today, when we appeared in court to start the trial, the High Court judge announced that the Chief Justice has given him the power to continue the trial and made orders to the effect that on the 18th we’ll be having the case management conference and after 18th, we’ll take the adjournment for the trial to commence. So I can say now that we are commencing the trial in Wa,” Abdul-Shakur stated.

He assured the public that his team had gathered sufficient evidence to secure convictions against the three accused individuals involved in the case.
