Former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sissala East Municipality, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, has expressed immense pride in championing the construction of an Astro Turf in Tumu, which now host elite football competition in the municipality. The construction of facility marks a significant milestone in the development of sports and recreation in the municipality and reflects the former MP’s commitment towards improving sports and recreation.

The Astro Turf is a product of relentless effort and advocacy by Amidu Issahaku Chinnia during his time as the Sissala East MP. Under the NPP government, Chinnia played an integral part in pushing for the construction of a modern football facility, ensuring that Tumu footballers would have access to top-tier playing surfaces.

Before the installation of the Astro Turf, matches were played on Sakora Parks, which did not meet the required standards for competitive matches. The new Astro Turf, Tumu is now ready to host the upcoming FA cup qualifiers announced by the RFA.

Although Chinnia lost his parliamentary seat to Issah Bataglia Mohammed of the NDC, his legacy in improving the sports infrastructure of Tumu remains solid. Reflecting on the progress, Chinnia shared his joy and pride upon learning that the FA Cup qualifiers fixtures would be played on the Astro Turf.

In his statement, Chinnia expressed:

“This is what gladdens my heart as a former MP. I played the lead role in getting an Astro Turf in Tumu that our footballers can play on. This and many more make me proud, and the legacy will live on.”

The Astro Turf is expected to greatly improve the quality of football in the municipality, providing a world-class facility for local teams to train and compete. It is also anticipated to boost the popularity of the sport, encourage youth participation, and elevate Tumu’s standing in national football events.
