John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to appoint James Gyakye Quayson, the former Member of Parliament for Assin North, as a minister if he is elected in the next general elections.

Mahama made this promise during a campaign visit to Assin North ahead of the scheduled by-election in the constituency on June 27.

Mahama praised Quayson for his humility, respect for others, and commitment to development. He highlighted Quayson’s efforts in driving development in the area even as an opposition MP, and expressed optimism about the impact he could make as a minister.

The by-election in Assin North was necessitated by the nullification of the 2020 parliamentary election results in the constituency, which had initially been won by Quayson. The Electoral Commission scheduled the by-election to fill the vacant seat.

Mahama also stated that he believes the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections will begin in Assin North. He attributed this anticipated success to the perceived poor economic performance of the government and urged the constituents to re-elect James Gyakye Quayson as their Member of Parliament in order to accelerate development in the area.
