Ghanaian football club, Real Tamale United (RTU), is embroiled in a major scandal after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) leveled serious accusations of cheating against them. The controversy stems from RTU’s recent Premier League match against Dreams FC.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee alleges RTU engaged in “malpractice” by deliberately fielding unregistered players during the match. These players allegedly “masqueraded as” officially registered members of the RTU team. This act of “foul play” is considered a serious offense that tarnishes the reputation of the sport.

The situation arose because RTU’s first-team players boycotted the match due to a reported six months of unpaid salaries. This forced the club to allegedly resort to using players from a lower division team, Galaxy FC, and another unnamed club. The match itself ended in a crushing 8-1 defeat for RTU, but the alleged cheating overshadows the result.

The potential consequences for RTU are severe. Penalties could include a lifetime ban from the league, which would be a devastating blow to the club’s future. This incident has also cast a dark cloud over the Ghana Premier League, attracting widespread public condemnation and damaging the league’s reputation.

The football community awaits the decision of the GFA Disciplinary Committee as they deliberate on the case. This decision will set a precedent for how similar violations will be handled moving forward.
