The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken decisive action against Dr. Mrs. Shine Agatha Ofori, the headmistress of West Africa Senior High School (WASS), for allegedly collecting money from students without authorisation.
In response to such incidents, the GES has reiterated its stance against unauthorised fee collections, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring fair and transparent practices within Ghana’s educational institutions.
According to a press release issued by the GES’s Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, in Accra, Dr. Mrs. Shine Agatha Ofori is required to hand over the school’s administration to the Regional Director of Education. This action will remain in effect pending the final determination of the case by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
This incident is not the first of its kind, as the GES had previously interdicted the headmaster of Fijai Senior High School in Sekondi, Mr. Kenneth Agbomadzi, earlier in 2023, on similar charges of allegedly imposing illegal fees on students.
However, Mr. Agbomadzi was later reinstated in May 2023 after a committee, assigned to investigate the matter, cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The GES’s management, through a statement, has warned that the service takes any form of illegal monetary collection seriously and emphasised its disapproval of such practices. This stern stance reflects the GES’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in the educational sector.
The case of Dr. Mrs. Shine Agatha Ofori serves as another reminder of the GES’s unwavering commitment to ensuring fair and transparent practices within Ghana’s educational institutions. The final verdict by the Regional Disciplinary Committee will determine the course of action following the interdiction.
As the GES continues to enforce its zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorised fee collections, it is evident that the service is dedicated to safeguarding the rights and welfare of students and maintaining the integrity of the education system in Ghana.
