Two final-year students of Gambaga College of Education on teaching practice were shot at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
One of the victims, identified only as Salifu, died instantly, while the other sustained critical gunshot wounds.
According to reports, the two had just returned from a DSTV viewing center, where they watched the UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. While standing outside their residence discussing the game, gunmen on a motorbike approached, identified them, and opened fire at close range.
Police later arrived at the scene and transported the deceased’s body to the morgue. The injured student remains in critical condition.
Meanwhile, in a related incident, unknown gunmen attempted an attack on another Kusasi student in Gambaga two weeks ago, though it was unsuccessful.
The attacks are believed to be linked to the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
The college’s administration has confirmed the incident, and the police have been notified. In addition, the Gambaga Chief Palace has summoned the Principal of the college for further discussions. An investigation has already been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the student’s tragic death.
