Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament for Wa Central, has once again triumphed in the 2024 parliamentary elections. This marks his sixth consecutive victory in the constituency, reinforcing his influence and the trust of his constituents.
The seasoned lawmaker secured 38,579 votes, decisively defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Hajia Humu Awudu, who garnered 30,724 votes. This victory also marked an improvement over his 2020 election performance, where he received 39,542 votes compared to Hajia Humu Awudu’s 33,340 votes.
Dr. Pelpuo’s consistent electoral success highlights his strong connection with the people of Wa Central and their continued confidence in his leadership. His ability to address the constituency’s pressing needs and advocate for development has solidified his position as a respected figure in the Upper West Region’s political landscape.
For Hajia Humu Awudu and the NPP, this result represents yet another challenge in their efforts to secure the Wa Central seat, a constituency that has been a stronghold of the NDC. Despite her spirited campaign, the NPP candidate was unable to close the gap in votes.
Dr. Pelpuo’s victory contributes to the NDC’s strong performance in the Upper West Region, where the party won all 11 parliamentary seats.
As Dr. Rashid Pelpuo begins another term, constituents will be looking to see continued progress in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. With a history of delivering on his promises, expectations are high for further development under his leadership.
