Management of DHLTU has organised a four-day workshop on Quality Assurance, Grant Writing and Fund Raising Strategies for staff of the University. The workshop, which began on February 7, ended on February 10, 2023. The event took place at the conference hall of the University.
Speaking to participants at the opening, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Elias N. K. Sowley advised the staff to pay utmost attention to everything that would be done at the workshop.
He indicated that the workshop was to enhance the capacity of staff. He further said, “The rationale for this is that, we want to build the capacity of our staff. Universities are built around the quality of the staff. Sometimes, I say we can easily become the best depending on what the staff do. We need to change our mindset”
He intimated that there were so many institutions in the country that depend on government for support and that the government alone could not meet the needs of the institutions in the country. Hence, the need for staff to be trained on how to write winning grants.
Prof. Sowley said that Management was working assiduously to make the institution relevant to the economy by devising innovative ways of improving the agricultural sector as well as smock weaving.
The facilitator Dr. Violet Makuku, Director of the Global Quality Assurance Association, took participants through the following topics: Mindset Change, Team Building, Quality Assurance, Fund Raising Strategies, Research Methods, Academic writing Skills and Grant writing Skills.
Management of the University, teaching staff and non- teaching staff took part in the training programme.
The four-day workshop equipped participants with concrete techniques for writing for grants.
Staff who took part in the workshop were presented with certificates of participation.
