A pressing petition has emerged, urging the swift removal and appropriate sanctions against John Wulah Nuta, the current SRC President. The petition cites a range of alleged unethical, unapproved, and counter-productive actions that have raised concerns about his suitability for student leadership. A thorough examination of these matters reveals a complex situation that demands immediate attention.

Issues at Hand:

  1. Awarding of Contracts: A meeting held on August 11, 2023, involving SRC executives, uncovered unsettling revelations. It was alleged that the SRC President, without proper consultation, had unilaterally awarded contracts for the SRC Hostel Project and the SRC Cloth Project. These actions not only sidestepped the required formal procedures but also created delays and raised suspicions.
  2. Misuse of Funds: Further investigations disclosed that the SRC President received a substantial bank payment as a commission for the SRC Cloth Project. Shockingly, this was done without the knowledge or consent of other executives. The funds received, approximately GH¢36,000.00, were allegedly spent without proper accountability, leading to concerns about fiscal mismanagement and lack of transparency.
  3. Allegations of Unethical Behavior: Aside from financial irregularities, the petition touches upon allegations of unethical conduct involving students. While these allegations are yet to be proven, they underscore a broader concern about the President’s behavior and its alignment with the responsibilities of his office.

Legal Framework:

The SRC Constitution (2021) outlines the role and responsibilities of the SRC President. Article 11 highlights the President’s obligations, including representing the student body in various capacities. Additionally, Article 55 stipulates the grounds for removal from office, encompassing conduct that brings the office into disrepute or is prejudicial to student interests.

Conclusion and Recommendations:

Based on the findings presented in the petition, it is concluded that John Wulah Nuta’s actions are incompatible with the role of the SRC President. His unilateral decisions, alleged fiscal mismanagement, and potential ethical violations have cast doubt on his ability to effectively lead and represent the student body. As such, the following recommendations are proposed:

  1. The Judicial Board should initiate an independent inquiry to further investigate the allegations and determine their veracity.
  2. The SRC President should consider resigning voluntarily, recognizing the gravity of the allegations and their potential impact on the institution and its students.
  3. If resignation is not forthcoming, the student body calls for an impeachment process to be carried out as per the provisions of the SRC Constitution.

    2. Where is the Gh¢36000 coming from? What business did the SRC undertake to be paid a commission? Is the SRC now a business entity? Was the said money drawn from the school SRC account? and how were they missused?
