Bayern Munich defeated Cologne to surpass Borussia Dortmund on the decisive final day, winning their 11th straight Bundesliga championship.

Dortmund would have won the championship if they had defeated Mainz, but a 2-2 draw gave Bayern the advantage.

The winning goal by Jamal Musiala in the 89th minute allowed them to profit.

Kingsley Coman’s earlier goal had been cancelled out by a Cologne penalty, but Musiala enraged the away supporters.

For manager Thomas Tuchel, who took over for Julian Nagelsmann in March, it was a fruitful conclusion to the campaign.

The last time the team that started the final day second in the Bundesliga won the championship was Bayern, which defeated Bayer Leverkusen in 1999–2000.
