David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, reveals how, as a youngster, he managed to secure a lucrative endorsement deal with one of Nigeria’s largest telecoms companies.
The artist revealed this in a recent interview, saying that MTN was a new telecoms provider in Nigeria at the time.

Davido claims that he was 17 at the time and had written two popular songs, which placed him in the brand’s target demographic.
The singer who recently released his fourth studio album revealed that MTN offered him an endorsement worth N20M at the time.

The return from the deal helped him write more songs and fueled the release of his first album.
Davido said: “I remember when MTN, a telecommunication company, came, and they were like, they want to do endorsement, but then he (dad) was like, how much, and I said 20 million. I was 17. Nobody has seen that kind of money.
“Wow, this is from Music, and it’s off like two songs, of course. I’m like, ‘Daddy, see, we can do this’.
“He looking at it, he built me a studio and gave me some money to run my stuff and did my first album, and it came out really really successful.”
