Parliament of Ghana has taken a significant step forward in the promotion of proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values by adopting the motion on the corresponding bill.

The second reading of the bill on Wednesday, July 5, allowed members of the House to engage in a debate on the matter. Notable contributions were made by Minister Dan Botwe, who strongly condemned the activities of LGBT individuals, and Deputy Minority Chief Whip Ahmed Ibrahim, who praised advocates against homosexuality.

During the debate following the second reading of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, expressed his strong opposition to the activities of lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals, and transgender (LGBT) individuals.

He labeled it as “madness” and a Satanic force that should not be allowed to thrive in the country. Minister Botwe emphasized the need for constant vigilance even after the passage of the bill.

Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, paid tribute to influential figures who have spoken out against homosexuality, including Apostle Opoku Onyinah of the Church of Pentecost and Moses Foh-Amoaning, the Executive Secretary of the National Coalition of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values. He criticized the Ghana AIDS Commission for opposing the bill, highlighting the importance of upholding Ghanaian family values.

During the debate, an altercation occurred between Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtal Ibrahim Mohammed. This resulted in a temporary hold-up of proceedings, with Sit-in Speaker Andy Asiamah instructing the clerk to record the exchanges.

Eventually, the Fomena MP adopted the motion for the next stage, which involves consideration before the final stage of Third Reading on the floor.
