Mr. Peter Lachene Toobu, the Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency and Ranking member of the Defence and Interior Select Committee, has raised concerns about the death of a police officer during a daylight robbery at a filling station in the Ablekuma-Fanmilk area of the Greater Accra Region.

As a member of the committee, he questions why the officer was not properly dressed for the operation and emphasizes the need for answers from the police management.

Hon. Toobu highlights the importance of providing adequate protective gear for police officers engaged in high-risk operations such as escorting bullion vans. He suggests that if the officer had been equipped with a ballistic jacket and helmet, his chances of surviving the attack might have been higher.

He calls on the police management to explain why the officer was not appropriately attired and the level of briefing he received prior to the duty.

Expressing his concerns, Mr. Toobu raises suspicions about the vehicle’s level of armor, as the attackers were able to shoot through it without difficulty. He suggests that the prime suspect in the incident could be the driver of the vehicle and urges the police hierarchy to apprehend him.

Furthermore, he emphasizes the need for a thorough reconstruction of the crime scene by investigators to uncover any overlooked details and provide a comprehensive understanding of the incident.

In light of this tragic incident, Mr. Toobu calls upon the Inspector General of Police to intensify efforts in combating crime throughout the country. He emphasizes that the fear of crime can make living in Ghana challenging and stresses the importance of effective crime prevention strategies and the swift apprehension of criminals to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
