In a case highlighting the ongoing struggles with cattle theft in  Upper West Region, a farmer has been arrested. Mr. Moro Musah, 33, faces accusations of stealing cattle in October 2023 from a location in Kroboi, Sissala East Municipality.

The alleged crime came to light when Barry Abdoulaye, a Fulani herdsman, reported the theft of 60 cattle from his kraal (livestock enclosure).

Following Abdoulaye’s report, law enforcement launched an investigation. This led to the interception of a vehicle transporting stolen cattle. The driver, Wakilu Abubakari, revealed during questioning that Musah had hired him to transport the animals.

The cattle found in the vehicle had markings that matched the description of Abdoulaye’s stolen livestock. This evidence, along with Abubakari’s statement, solidified the case against Musah.

Although Musah initially evaded capture, authorities apprehended him in December 2023. He reportedly admitted to stealing cattle but maintains he only took 14, contradicting Abdoulaye’s claim of 60 missing animals.

Musah has returned the 14 recovered cattle. The court has remanded him in custody, with a hearing scheduled for April 16, 2024. Efforts to locate the remaining stolen cattle are ongoing.
