Waala Nabihi

In a formal announcement, the Princes and Princesses of the four Royal gates of the Waala Traditional Kingdom address the media to clarify their stance on a recent unauthorized press conference. Held at the meeting ground of Wa Princes and Princesses, Yenkpon, the Royals categorically disavow the conference’s claims and clarify their position.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, the Royals extend a warm welcome to you and wish to address an issue that has garnered attention. Our attention was drawn to a press conference held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Organized by a faction of Royals who support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, led by Mr. Jamal Adama Kpegla, the conference endorsed the Vice President for the upcoming NPP Presidential Primaries on behalf of all Royals.

The Royals wish to clarify that the said press conference did not receive sanction from the official mouthpiece of the Royals. Consequently, the Royals distance themselves from the statements issued during the conference, labeling them unfortunate and condemnable.

The following points are emphasized:

  1. Recognized Decision-Making Body: The Waala Traditional Council or Secretariat remains the sole recognized highest decision-making body of the Kingdom, comprising the four royal gates: Yijihi Gate, Naa Jeri Gate, Jonyuohi Gate, and Naa-Kpaha Gate. This group does not hold official recognition within this framework.
  2. Lack of Sanction: Checks with the royal gates and Wa Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV reveal that they had no knowledge of and did not sanction the press conference. The legitimacy of this self-appointed group is questioned as they acted without authority.
  3. Hypocrisy in Endorsement: The group’s endorsement based on Dr. Bawumia’s Northern Ghana royal lineage is criticized as hypocritical. Numerous Northern Ghana royals have contested presidential elections in the past without such endorsements.
  4. National Security Concerns: The Royals raise concerns over the conference triggering national security attention, as the 1957 Discrimination Act forbids politics of tribal and religious discrimination in Ghana.
  5. Call for Unity: As custodians of tradition, the Royals emphasize their role as beacons of peace, unity, and development. They disapprove of actions that detract from these values.

In closing, the Royals call upon the public to disregard the press conference’s claims and treat them with the contempt they deserve. The focus remains on unity, respect, and maintaining the rich cultural heritage that the Royals represent.
