Presided over by His Honour Mr. Jonathan Avogo, the Wa Circuit Court has remanded the suspect into police custody, where he will undergo daily trial. Mr. Saeed Abdul Shakur, a Principal State Attorney in the Upper West Region, has emphasized the necessity of the remand, explaining that the police require the suspect’s cooperation in ongoing investigations.

The Principal State Attorney elaborated on the complexity of the case, revealing that the prosecution had built five dockets, each containing multiple charges of defilement, attempted defilement, and indecent assault. These charges are related to incidents that occurred at various times, including some in the bush and others within the suspect’s matrimonial home.

While the suspected serial paedophile has been accused of defiling about 30 girls aged below 16 years, the prosecution has substantial evidence for twelve cases against the suspect.

Madam Charity Batuure, the Upper West Regional Director of the Department of Gender (DoG), has expressed her office’s strong interest in the case. Their focus goes beyond prosecution; they are committed to ensuring the survivors receive comprehensive services, including psychological counseling.

Madam Batuure emphasized that their goal is not solely focused on legal proceedings but also on providing the necessary support for the affected children. She expressed satisfaction with the proceedings in court and remained hopeful that justice would be served.

Commending the collaborative efforts of partners such as the UNFPA and Global Fund, Madam Batuure acknowledged their support in ensuring the financial needs associated with the case’s prosecution are met. The case underscores the importance of both legal proceedings and holistic support to ensure the rights and well-being of survivors are upheld.
