Amakye Dede, a highlife legend in Ghana, has admitted in the open that he felt obligated to enthrone Kuami Eugene as the country’s next highlife king.

Industry insiders were outraged by the incident that occurred at the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), and they criticized the “Mawerekyekyere” hitmaker for his “unprofessional gesture.”

Amakye Dede, who is not frequently seen in the media, claimed in an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on June 14 that the choice to crown Kuami Eugene was not his own.

He claimed that some nameless individuals forced him into giving the young artist this title.

Amakye Dede provided additional details on the incident, stating, “Though I did that, it was not my will to do so, They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene.”

He added that although he had first offered the crown to someone else, he had been convinced by other people involved in the ceremony to crown Kuami Eugene.

He claimed, “I even handed the crown they gave me to someone to set it down, but they subsequently said, no I have to crown him, and I did it.
