Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has responded strongly to criticisms leveled against his presidential ambition by the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament. During a campaign address captured in an audio clip, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central expressed his discontent with the lack of development in mining communities across the country and specifically called out the Majority Chief Whip.

Agyapong questioned the motives behind Newmont’s proposed diversion of the Sunyani Road and highlighted the disparity between the wealth generated by gold mining and the living conditions of the people in affected areas.

He emphasized the importance of negotiating corporate social responsibility agreements with mining companies to ensure the well-being of the local communities. Furthermore, Agyapong, a successful business magnate, refuted the notion that his nonconformist personality should be seen as a hindrance to his presidential ambitions. He pointed out the contradiction in his opponents’ criticism, questioning how he could have achieved success in business if he lacked the qualities required for presidential leadership.
