Ghanaian journalist and well-known event host Anita Erskine has urged more women to work as emcees.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she asserted that there is currently a large need for female MCs.

“I also encourage many of women to work as emcees. Many clientele are requesting female MCs these days, she observed.

Anita also offered guidance to aspiring MCs on how to enhance their abilities by taking constructive criticism to heart and fixing their flaws.

She briefly discussed the importance of using humor when emceeing and counseled MCs who aren’t particularly funny to avoid telling jokes while performing their duties.

Although humor may be helpful for engagement, according to Anita, it is not necessary to be an MC.

“I think being funny is overrated if you don’t get the joke and how it relates to the audience. As a result, my first bit of advice is to avoid trying to amuse yourself too much, she remarked.

Anita gave an overview of the characteristics of a good event MC and mentioned that one needed to understand what protocol meant in terms of how to handle people, speak with them, excite them, reassure them, and begin the event in a polite and calm manner.

“As an MC, you have to be in control of yourself when you start an event in order to take control of the room,” she added.

Anita Erskine manages Anita Erskine Media, her communications company, and has planned numerous high-profile events both locally and internationally.
