Dr Hilla Limann Technical University inducts Prof Elias N. K. Sowley as first Vice Chancellor

Professor Elias N. K. Sowley, has been inducted into office as the first Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU).

Prof Sowley, before his appointment and induction as a Vice-Chancellor, holds a Ph.D. in Plant pathology, MPhil. In Crop Science, BSc (Hons) Botany, and Diploma in Education.

The colorful investiture, which took place on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the University’s campus in Wa, the Upper West Province, was branded by various shades of traditional wear and dances (smock and Bawa dance from Lawra), ushered in Prof N. K. Sowley as the V C.

Despite the continued failure of the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to attend such functions in the region, it was graced by many dignitaries including members of the Governing Council, Convocation, the Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, Students, non-teaching staff of the University, people from the academia and industry, traditional leaders, as well as family and friends of the VC and students.

Chief Sulemana Nabila, chairman of the Governing Council took the V C through the inductions process with special prayers and praises from St. Benedict Parish Choir, in Wa.

Delivering a speech shortly after the induction and sharing of pleasantries, Prof N. K. Sowley said, he was poised to transform the University by improving school infrastructure, water, and uplifting lecture halls.

“I will work closely with the management team and the Governing Council to secure some support from Government and donor agencies for the improvement and provisions of additional infrastructure such as halls or residences, faculties, workshops and sporting facilities. The water system will also be improved by adding to the already existing boreholes”, he stated.

He assured the public of going to promote good governance and management, as a higher education he said cannot flourish without programmes, hence will like to run the school transparently.

Prof N. K. Sowley stated again that he is going to spearhead an administration that would increase the visibility of the institution within the global village by strengthening partnerships with various organisations

“I Expressing his profound gratitude, the VC said “Am grateful to the governing council for finding me worthy for this position. To all internal and external stakeholders who welcome and supported me in various ways.”

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, Upper West Regional Minister who graced the occasion as the guest of honour said government, is not oblivious of the challenges faced by Technical universities hence, the government is committed to supporting Technical universities to overcome those challenges
