1,000 Girls to Benefit from ICT Training in the Savannah Region

1000 girls from seven districts in the Savannah region have begun training as of today thanks to the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD).
They will receive training in coding, e-safety, and fundamental computing.

Two batches of the training will be held from April 25 to May 6, 2023, with district and regional competitions to choose the top 100 girls.

The Savannah region’s Mentorship and Climax will take place on May 8 and 9, 2023. These are the prizes given out by the Girls-In-ICT program:

  1. All 1000 girls will be awarded with certificates of participation;
  2. Best girl in each district gets ICT lab set up in the schools they attended;
  3. Top 100 girls would be given laptops and
  4. Top three (3) girls would be awarded cash prizes and plaques.

The District Chief Executive for Central Gonja (Bupe), Hon. Iddrisu Salia, thanked the Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), for expanding the initiative to the Savannah region during a brief ceremony to kick off the meeting. He was represented by the Regional Coordinating Director, Philip Akorle.

The girls were advised by Mr. Salia to take the training seriously in order to gain the ICT skills they will need for future advancement.
“Take instructions seriously so that you can acquire the basic ICT skills so that at the end of the training you can come out successfully,” he said.

He hinted that the training gave an excellent opportunity for them to expand their knowledge base, aid in the improvement of their skills, and get the most information possible to ensure that they would have ICT employment in the future.

He hoped that they would become very motivated to take their ICT education seriously.

The world is shifting away from manual processes to digital technology and the use of the internet to transact and access essential services, the minister said, adding that this was expressly created for you girls to enable increased female engagement in the ICT sector.
