Renowned Ghanaian record producer Da’ Hammer reveals the chain of events that led to his decision to take a break from the studio. Hammer of the Last Two has produced some of the greatest hits in the Ghanaian music space.
His recognised signature sounds have featured music icons like Obrafour, Lord Kenya, Kwaw Kese, Ayigbe Edem and others. Hammer has been dabbling in entrepreneurship, leaving his studio equipment untouched for seven years.

He tells Kafui Dey, “I was bored. I felt like a prisoner. For 15-plus years, I was locked up in a room with no window. The artists come and go…. These boys were out on stage jumping around. When they come back, you are still in that space.”
Edward Nana Poku Osei is the founder and CEO of The Last Two Music Group. He is noted as one of the pioneers of Hiplife or Hip Hop made in Ghana.
Hammer also attributed his sedentary lifestyle to his weight gain. He said, “My name was ‘Slim The Hammer’. I wasn’t fat. I was an athlete in Presec. So, this business of becoming big was the studio.”
Hammer is now partnering with bakers to introduce one of Accra’s popular bread brands, A1 Bread.
