The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially welcomed Dr. Munawaru Issahaque as the new Acting Deputy Director General in charge of Quality and Access. Dr. Issahaque was appointed to this esteemed position by President John Dramani Mahama. His appointment marks the continuation of his long-standing career in education, where he has consistently contributed to the improvement of educational outcomes across rural and peri-urban districts in Ghana.

Dr. Munawaru hails from Goripie in the Upper West Region of Ghana. His journey to becoming an educationist began at the NJA College of Education, where he pursued a certificate in teaching with a focus on social studies. He went on to complete both his first and second degrees in education at the University of Cape Coast, and later earned his Doctorate in Economics from AIU, USA, as well as a PhD in Social Administration from the University of Development Studies.

Dr. Munawaru’s career has seen him hold various key educational positions, including serving as the Head of Department for Economics and Guidance and Counseling Coordinator at T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School. His dedication to improving the quality of education led him to leadership roles in multiple educational institutions. He also served as the Municipal Director of Education for Savelegu from 2019 to 2025 , further building on his experience in education administration.

Additionally, Dr. Munawaru is the proprietor of EduBusConsult, an education and business consultancy firm that has been instrumental in driving educational reforms in Ghana.

In his new role as Acting Deputy Director General, Dr. Munawaru will report directly to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service. He will provide oversight for four key divisions within the GES, ensuring alignment with the Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2018-2030). His responsibilities will include research, assessment, monitoring, and evaluation—areas crucial for the advancement of Ghana’s education sector.

Dr. Munawaru succeeds Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, who held the position for the past six and a half years. His wealth of experience and dedication to educational improvement will be invaluable as he works to implement strategies for enhancing education across the country.
